A GOSPEL concert and a street fair are among the activities planned for the celebration of New Amsterdam Town Day in Berbice, scheduled for between November 27 and 30.

That was announced after a meeting yesterday, chaired by Mayor Claude Henry and attended by the Planning Committee members, comprising representatives of the Berbice Chambers of Commerce and a wide cross-section of the citizenry.

The theme for the four-day programme is ‘Celebrating our rich heritage in 2008.’

The opening ceremony will include a relay and lighting of the Municipal Torch, to be followed by a cultural extravaganza, an exhibition and street fair by the business community, a ‘wash down’ and the concert.

Other events are bicycle races, dominoes, a fitness walk and a debate amongst secondary school students.
