Inter-block final scheduled for today despite football row
PLAISANCE’s Inter Block football final promises to be well contested between Goedverwagting and Frontside but the squabbling between Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) almost left the match up between Santos and Western Tigers in doubt.
Sub-association, GFA president Troy Mendonca has stated that he sees no issue with the two teams that are available to play clashing in a friendly game.
But it is the position of the GFF that only that body has the authority to release teams to play.
Speaking to president of Western Tigers, Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys, he retorted: “What, then, is the relevance of the sub association?” He further went on to state that the sub-association governs that his team will be playing today and he is prepared to deal with consequences of such a move.
He contends that his team is available to play.
And coordinator of the Plaisance inter block football Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle stated that in the interest of football, the ministry will do all that it takes to develop football at all levels and carry football of a high quality to the villages.
