Guyana Water Incorporated working on restoring water supply in affected areas
THE Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) wishes to inform the general public that all efforts are being made to ensure that the water supply is restored in certain areas which have been affected by the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) scheduled maintenance of the Demerara Inter-Connected System. GWI operations are currently being affected by frequent and prolonged power outages resulting in disruption in the water supply in affected areas.
Since the agency’s operations depend heavily on the GPL for a continuous supply of specifically-phased and balanced generation of electricity to power motors, areas such as Regions Five and Six have been affected by this unfortunate event. Customers are therefore advised to store as much water as possible during the period of supply to minimise the inconvenience.
Administrators of major institutions such as hospitals, schools and other public institutions are also urged to ensure that taps are turned off during power outages to prevent wastage when power is restored.
The Agency further noted that residents of some areas including Georgetown (Shelter Belt), Better Hope, Mon Repos, Pouderoyen and Covent Gardens will not be affected seriously because of self-generation facilities at these locations.
The agency however, is working to ensure water supply is restored as quickly as possible.
