REPUBLIC Bank, Rose Hall Branch recently donated $250,000 towards the realisation of a Fire Station in Central Corentyne.
Making the presentation on behalf of the banking institution, Administrative Manager Ms Seema Narain said, the gesture is in keeping with the motto of the bank to return to the community from which they have received their support.
Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce member Mr. Wayne Foster who received the donation, expressed gratitude on behalf of his organisation.
The construction of the much needed fire service, which is estimated to cost some $15M is expected to be completed before year end.
Among those who recently donated towards the project are local entrepreneurs of Hamid and Sons store at Fyrish, Spready’s Bakery, and Dr. Ramesh Sugrim along with overseas-based businessman Dave Balgobin.
The establishment of a Fire Service at Rose Hall was conceptualised by the Corentyne Chambers of Commerce which recognised the need for the service. The East Berbice Corentyne area which spans 60 miles is equipped with two stations which are found at New Amsterdam and Corriverton over 47 miles apart. However, support is received from tenders from the sugar estates at Rose Hall, Albion and Skeldon.
