GBTI awards education bursaries to 10 early savers
GUYANA Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) presented education bursaries to 10 members of its Early Savers Club on Tuesday.
All the awardees secured passes at the 2008 National Grade Six Assessment examinations.
Among them was top student Yogeeta Persaud, who gained 558 marks and is now attending Anna Regina Multilateral School on Essequibo Coast.
Persaud and another awardee, Sherifa Valenzuela, were unable to attend the presentation at GBTI’s Water Street, Georgetown Head Office but they received their awards at other branches.
The others who attended were Arianna Seeraj (553 marks), Crystal Ramdayal (551 marks), Ridwaan Safi (551 marks), Kavita Sawh (549 marks), Saphan Hestick (548 marks), Akash Jairam (546 marks) and Vikash Horil (538 marks). Shahrazaad Khan, with 552 marks, was absent.
Also present, together with parents of the children, was Acting Chief Education Officer, Mrs. Genevieve Whyte-Nedd, who said the Ministry of Education is appreciative of GBTI extending its social responsibility to the sector over many years.
She commended the bank, as well, for the splendid idea that motivates the beneficiaries to achieve academic excellence.
Whyte-Nedd encouraged parents to work together to “nurture, train, coach, mentor, support and teach” their children, if they want them to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes which are prerequisites for adult life.
“Press on, keep focus and strive for the goal,” she challenged them.
The Early Savers Club allows its membership to appreciate the importance of saving and Persaud said she has had the account for at least four years.
Ecstatic and very grateful for the benefit, she pledged to continue striving for higher heights and greater achievements in the future.
Persaud also said she is relieved and glad that old friends are attending her new school, too.
The other children present agreed that the benefit is a good one that encourages grade six candidates to discipline themselves and be better achievers.
