Depa Odit does Rama Krishna proud at NGSA
ASPIRING educator Depa Odit has done Rama Krishna Primary School, in Kitty, Georgetown, proud by securing a place among the best 100 candidates at the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination.
It was the first time in more than a decade that the institution realised such an achievement at the test for entrance to secondary schools, the Headmistress, Mrs. Dhansahwari Ramprasad said in a recent interview with the Guyana Chronicle.
But she pointed out that the overall performance of her pupils, this year, reflected a decline from last year.
Ramprasad said 114 candidates sat the exam and 68 gained places at secondary schools, as compared to 92 who obtained similar placements from a batch of 113 who wrote the Secondary Schools Entrance Examination (SSEE) in 2007.
Odit, who scored 530 marks, said getting to attend Queen’s College (QC) is a dream come through.
The bespectacled girl expressed gratitude to her parents and teachers for their tireless support during her studies.
Unlike most of the other better performers who want to become lawyers and doctors, Odit prefers to enter the field of education and help solve the many deficiencies in the teaching profession.
Her schoolmates, Athea Jailall (506 marks) and Albert Narine and Savita Sugrim (502 marks each) also secured places at secondary schools.
