Corentyne District through to National semis
Republic Bank Right Start Schools’ Under-15 Cricket
DISTRICT Six, Corentyne, are through to the national semi-finals of the Republic Bank-sponsored Right Start Secondary Schools Under-15 40 Overs Cricket Competition after trouncing New Amsterdam/Canje by 71 runs.
In their quarter-final played last Saturday, at the Port Mourant ground, Corentyne, upon winning the toss and taking first strike, rattled up 130 for nine in their allotment of 40 overs before dismissing their opponents for a paltry 59 in 21 overs.
Berbice Under-15 players Veerapen Permaul, Andy Mohan and Lloyd Lewis contributed 14 each in Corentyne’s innings, as off-spinners Kevin Ramdeen and Flynn Reid captured three for 26 and two for 25 respectively.
New Amsterdam/Canje, in reply, were never really in the hunt, with only Reid (11) offering some amount of resistance.
Medium-pacer Lionel Lewis was the chief destroyer with four for 14 and was well backed up by left-arm spinner Sasenarine Ernest and leg-spinner Shan Perreira
Off-spinner Permaul also accounted for two wickets, costing 5.
Meanwhile, New Amsterdam/Canje had gained their entry into the final eight by whipping West Berbice/Mahaicony District by a massive 160 runs at the same venue, the day before.
Asked to bat, New Amsterdam/Canje posted 212 for six at the expiration of their 40 overs with Jermaine John leading the way with 44, Kemraj Rampersaud 37 not out and Davendra Jainabi 33.
Off-spinner Kirt Griffith took three for 26 for West Berbice/Mahaicony, who were bundled out for 52 in 14.3 overs.
Derick Cadogan pocketed two for 2, fellow pacer Kareem Hinds two for 23 and left-arm-spinner Rampersaud two for 9.
Corentyne District will now meet District 4 (East Coast Demerara) in the first semi, set for tomorrow, while following day, District 14 (East Bank Demerara), clash with District 6 (Essequibo Islands).
Both matches will be played at the Guyana National Stadium, at Providence.
The final is also set for Friday, also at the Guyana National Stadium. (Vemen Walter)
