Defendant charged with impersonating doctor, Presidential Guard
PRINCIPAL Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday remanded Kwesi Robinson to prison on charges of impersonating a Police officer and a doctor.
Robinson, 27, of Lot 813 Paradise Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to both charges, one of which said, last June 15, at Light and Fifth Streets, Alberttown, he pretended, to Alfred Samuels, that he was a medical practitioner employed by the Ministry of Health.
Particulars of the second offence said, on June 24, in the Stabroek Market area, of Georgetown, as well, Robinson pretended, to Ricardo Nageer, that he was a member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) attached to Office of the President (OP).
Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, successfully opposed bail for Robinson, on the ground that other similar charges are likely to be preferred against him and he was ordered to remain incarcerated until July 14.
The defendant, denying the allegations, said he is employed by GUYSUCO at its La Bonne Intention Estate, East Coast Demerara, but only admitted to owing the virtual complainants money for hiring their taxis and had made arrangements to pay them.
Samuels told the Court Robinson claimed he was Dr. Kendall, a surgeon at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and Nageer said, when the defendant hired him for journeys to various parts of West Coast Demerara, he declared he was a Presidential Guard.
