Jewellery snatcher jailed for 18 months
WENDELL Fresco, 36, of Lot 101 Sideline Dam, East La Penitence, was yesterday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for larceny from the person.
Before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, he pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on June 29, he stole two gold bands valued $75,000 from Aronnie Semple.
Police Corporal Sherwin Matthews, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was awaiting transport at the Route 42 bus park when Fresco walked up to her and snatched the jewels off one wrist.
The woman raised an alarm and the thief was apprehended and taken to Brickdam Police Station, also in Georgetown, the Prosecutor said.
Fresco admitted, in Court, that he took the jewellery from his crotch where he had hidden it and gave the Police.
