At Demerara Assizes…
REGISTERED medical practitioner, Dr. Sudesh Sawh testified yesterday that he attended Navin Seepersaud, the victim in the acid burning case at the Demerara Assizes.

The witness said the Herstelling, East Bank Demerara patient suffered first and second degree burns about the face, arms and body.

The doctor said the injuries were life threatening and Seepersaud was admitted to the Burns Care Unit of Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he had to be seen by a surgeon.

State Prosecutor Kara Duff-Yehudah is prosecuting Komal Persaud and his mother, Renee Persaud, who are indicted for throwing a corrosive substance on Seepersaud with intent to murder him, on November 25, 2004.

Justice Roxanne George is to deliver her ruling today on arguments, also by Defence Counsel Vic Puran, made in the absence of the jury.

The Prosecutor has indicated that, after the judge rules, she would close her case.
