Justice Ramlal rules…
JUSTICE William Ramlal yesterday ruled that the application by Chandra Narine Sharma for a conservatory order, to lift the suspension on Channel Six broadcast licence, is unmeritorious.

Consequently, the judge did not grant it and said that will be considered along with other issues at the hearing of the substantive motion, beginning July 7.

One of Sharma’s lawyers, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan had enquired of Justice Ramlal about granting the edict when the judge made the pronouncement.

Sharma is challenging the four months suspension imposed on the television station by President Bharrat Jagdeo, after a threat to the life of the Head of State was repeatedly broadcast on the channel.

Yesterday, at the continuation of the case, the Attorney General, Senior Counsel Doodnauth Singh, represented by other attorney-at-law Mr. Anil Nandlall, was granted three days leave, within which to file an affidavit in answer.

The judge also advised counsel on both sides that he wants to be addressed on certain specific questions of law which he indicated.

Justice Ramlal said each submission must take into account his ruling, including that the President is not the Minister of Telecommunications and cannot be a minister, because he is the President.
