A gift to silent, suffering animals

A friend visiting from Toronto came by my house on Wednesday June 18th, 2008. As we chatted he told me that while at the New Amsterdam Stelling he saw a female dog with a huge oozing tumor (size of a grapefruit) hanging under her tummy. After he left I called my friend and mega-animal lover, Noreen Gaskin, and told her about the dog. The next day, she sent her sister and one of her employees from her office in New Amsterdam to find the dog. It was found, caught and the suffering animal taken to the Cops Security Office in New Amsterdam, where she was given food, water and spoken to kindly by the staff. The Ministry of Agriculture Vets in Berbice were contacted but because of their busy schedule last weekend, it was impossible to assess the dog.

Over the weekend, Noreen could not get the thoughts of the suffering animal out of her mind so she had one of her employees put the suffering dog in a box and take it to Rosignol. On Monday June 23, 2008, in the pouring rain, Noreen personally drove to Rosignol, picked up the animal and brought it back to Georgetown. She took her to Dr Mclean, who evaluated her condition and surgery was done to remove the tumor. This beautiful common breed dog is recovering at Dr Mclean’s Clinic/Hospital. Noreen has found a new home in Berbice for her.

It was indeed sad to know the much suffering this animal went through, but hopefully something good will come from the experience.

Noreen, you are a gift to our silent, suffering animals, on their behalf thanks for your dedication and commitment, also to your staff and family members at the New Amsterdam Cops Office whom you have trained to take action when they recognise cruelty. They are Ms. Andrews, Mr. Gladstone and your sister Preeta Rampersaud.
