Look for maximum from CARIFESTA

ONE of the benefits that would be derived from Guyana’s hosting of Carifesta X is the appreciation for the differences that we share. The Guyanese public has for a long time been exposed to cultures that are either Caribbean, although we see the various artistes or Americans, through television.

The exposure of Guyanese to over twenty different cultures would be refreshing. The organizers should ensure that the public is given maximum exposure to the different presentations, be it performances, craft or food to allow the enlightenment that is likely to be achieved through the interaction of the Guyanese and the delegations.

The education could benefit our young people as it could create a hunger for knowledge and understanding of these new and different experiences.

The first Carifesta sparked the development of several institutions including the National Dance School and the E R Burrowes School of Art. Culture groups that still meet and perform at several functions have been created out of the Carifesta experience. This is what should be one of the outcomes of this mega event.

The music industry in Guyana has had a re-birth recently. Many private individuals have invested huge sums in ventures that seem to be paying off. The talents of our people should be displayed proudly during this event. We are on show.

The film festival should awaken the creative abilities locally to seek to create a new industry locally. Let us ensure maximum benefit is achieved from this massive investment.
