Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation refutes Kaieteur News article
THE Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has described a statement published in the Wednesday, May 21, 2008, edition of the Kaieteur News as incorrect.
In a release the GPHC said the statements appeared in a page two article captioned: ‘Two dead, six injured in Mahdia collision’ it was erroneously stated that only one ambulance was on standby to transport the patients when they arrived at the Ogle Airstrip, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Ambulances PKK 4817 and PHH 4102 were dispatched to the Ogle Airstrip at 14:43 and arrived together at 14:53 hrs. They waited for approximately twenty (20) minutes before the aircraft with the injured persons arrived.
Nurses who were on the aircraft assessed the situation and Ms. Wendy Williams and Mr. Samuel Munroe were transported in ambulance PKK 4817 while Mr. Andrew Duke was transported in Ambulance PHH 4102.
Ambulance PKK 4817 arrived first at the GPHC and when the injured were taken out, the ambulance immediately returned to the Ogle Airstrip. The same procedure occurred for ambulance PHH 4102.
It is only logical that one ambulance would return to the Ogle Airstrip before the other because they did not arrive at the hospital together.
On the second trip, ambulance PKK 4817 brought Mr. Dellon Gomes and Mr. Ronald Thomas and ambulance PHH 4102 brought Mr. Daniel Lopes.
Munroe and Gomes were admitted to Ward A1, Lopes, Duke and Thomas to A2 and Williams to C1.
Again, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation is urging the media to verify with its administration the accuracy of statements made by members of the public, before they are published.
