I did not regret visiting Guyana
My return to Guyana was put on hold three times during this year, because of the various tragic events that occurred in my homeland.
Nothing was going to deter me from coming eventually, but it was just the case of time. My family members were reluctant for me to visit Guyana, and I also had reservations, not for myself but for my granddaughter who I promised to take along.
After seven years I returned home with my granddaughter. It was wonderful to be in this land again, the feeling is quite indescribable.
I was impressed with the changes I saw, since the feed back I got in England was somewhat different from what I actually witnessed.
Apart from the roads and the street lights, what I was impressed about was the investment in the tourism industry, and the various residential areas which had never existed before.
We visited the tourism destinations in the interior. They were simply breathtaking, but what I was most proud of was when my granddaughter, who is not easily moved, was exclaiming over the sights she saw.
The forest, the waterfalls, the wild life, the mountains, the Amerindian people and their unique culture, the list goes on.
I love my country, but through her eyes, I developed a new pride and ownership that wasn’t there before.
I wish to make a recommendation that more needs to be done to bring awareness to the developmental aspects in Guyana , not only the vast tourism potential, but in general. The good must be highlighted, so people will know that while there are problems in Guyana many, many good things are happening also.
Most of my relatives and friends were unaware of the good things that are happening in Guyana. We are confronted mostly with the bad news which deter many people from returning.
Guyanese will be flocking these shores when they know the truth about the real happenings in their homeland.
