EXPERIENCED golfer Clifford B. Reis defied the inclement weather and a very competitive field to take the COURTS Guyana Inc. Stableford Golf tournament held last Saturday at Lusignan Golf Course (LGC).

Playing with a handicap 26 Reis recorded 41 points to beat into second position Brian Hackett in almost darkness and heavily overcast conditions after rain delayed the start of play by one hour.

Hackett who finished with the first set of golfers seemed a likely winner with his score of 40 playing with a handicap 28, but when the final group of golfers returned to the Club house, Reis squeezed home with a competitive 41 points.

Alfred Mentore (eight handicap) edged out Catterpaul Deo (14 handicap) on a countback for third place after both golfers finished on 39 points.

The burly Mike Guyadin won the prize for the Longest Drive, while local ladies champion Christine Sukhram won the prize for being Nearest to the Pin.

Prizes were also presented to Sukhram, Esau Shamsudin and Ian Gouveia whose names were pulled in a special raffle drawing.

The tournament attracted 30 golfers.

COURTS Guyana Inc. Managing Director Lester Alvis, one of the participants in Saturday’s tournament said his company was pleased to sponsor the tournament and committed to sponsoring the event annually.

The LGC also benefited from a freezer donated by the local furniture giants.

Alvis presented the freezer and sponsorship cheque to Mel Sankies LGC President who expressed gratitude to Courts for their generous assistance.

Courts Public Relations Officer in brief remarks highlighted her company’s involvement in the tournament, while Club captain Patrick Prashad chaired the presentation ceremony.

The local golfers are anticipating this weekend’s tournament that is expected to be sponsored by Scotia Bank.
