Three National Hardware employees charged with theft
THREE employees of National Hardware Limited appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday, on charges of larceny by clerk or servant.
Anil Bhagwandin, 20, of Cornelia Ida and Dinesh Seecharran, 20, of Lot 49 Best Village, both on West Coast Demerara and Paul Panday, 19, of Lot 779 Fifth Field, Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown, were all granted pre-trial liberty.
Bhagwandin and Seecharran faced a joint charge which said, between May 1 and 14, while being employed at National Hardware Super Centre, Industrial Area in the city, they stole four electric drills and one polishing machine, valued a total of $243,074.
In the case of Panday, it is alleged that, between May 1 and 14, being an employee in a similar capacity at the same business place, he stole three numerals worth $1,816.
Each denied the allegations and Defence Counsel Paul Fung-A-Fat said, while the merchandise was found in their bags, the men did not leave the premises with the articles.
The lawyer said the defendants have not been interdicted by their employer and Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, did not oppose bail but said the goods were removed from their original positions.
Panday was ordered to post $20,000 surety while the sum for Bhagwandin and Seecharran is $75,000 each.
The cases will be called again on May 29.
