Christian slams century for DCC
DCB Neal and Massy 40-over cricket …
NATIONAL wicketkeeper Derwin Christian slammed a brilliant 33-ball 101 for Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) who whipped Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) by a massive 147-run margin in the latest round of the Neal and Massy Demerara Cricket Board 40-over first-division cricket competition.
Playing at the DCC ground in Queenstown, the right-hander clobbered 12 sixes and four fours as DCC mounted up a huge 318 for seven from the allocation of 40 overs while GYO in reply were bowled out for 171 in the 36th over.
Demerara Under-19 opening batsman Troy Nurse was also in a no-nonsense mood hitting an entertaining 67 which counted five fours and a six while Ron Ramnauth and Trevon Griffith chipped in with 39 and 35 respectively.
Leg-spinner Carl Bowen took three for 52 from his eight overs while off-spinner Wilfred White took two for 34 and another off-spinner Ken Alphonso grabbed two for 58.
Jermaine Reynolds made 42, Alphonso 34, and Wazeer Mohamed 31, as off-spinner Dennis Squires grabbed three for 49 from seven overs and off-spinner Toralvo Scipio two for 50.
Scores in the other matches: Everest beat Transport Sports Club (TSC) by four wickets at Everest. TSC 163 all out in 40 overs: Kellon Carmichael 63*, Stephen Alves 51 and Markus Watkins 27; Sohan Ragananand 3-28, Leon Scott 2-17 and Amir Khan 2-23.
Everest in reply 164-6 off 38 overs: Ryan Ramdass 55* and Avinash Dookie 29; Shaun Massiah 2-23.
Lusignan beat UG by seven wickets. UG 114 all out off 28.5 overs: Yannick Grimes 34 and Godfrey Thakurdeen 23; Prakash Ganpat 4-32 and Kumar Bissoondyal 3-24. Lusignan in reply 116-3 off 19.5 overs: Somnauth Bharat 51 and Harrinarine Hira 37.
New Line Aqua Farm (NLAF) beat UG in their second game. UG 106 all out off 34.5 overs: Thakurdeen 30; Feroze Karrimulla 3-6, Budhuan Baksh 3-13 and Ramnarine Rajkumar. NLAF in reply 110-1 off 11 overs: Avisnash Sookdeo 67 and Ameer Aziz 25.
Maverick beat Lusignan by four wickets: Lusignan 106 all out in 33.2 overs: Chandrika Jeenarine 21* and Rajendra Naikbarran 20; Shawn Jairaj 4-14 and Bion Carew 3-21. Maverick in reply 108-6 off 34.1 overs: Muneshwar Balgobin 46 and Rabindranauth Seeram 20*; Emran Khan 3-20 and Hardeo Sattaur 2-23.
