Fredericks hits half-century on shortened first day of Under-19 trial

Despite a wet out field at the Police Sports Club ground and on a pitch with moisture yesterday, the little left-hander Fredericks batted sensibly to register his second consecutive fifty by scoring 63.
When stumps were drawn by the two ruling umpires Clive Duncan and Eddie Nicholls, another Essequibian Royston Alkins, who survived a chance, was unbeaten on 32 and his Berbician partner Alex Amsterdam on two.
Fredericks’ innings lasted for 80 balls from 130 minutes while national Under-19 batsman Seon Hetmyer made 29 which counted two fours from 85 deliveries and a 71-minute occupation at the crease.
Fredericks won the toss and opted to take first strike when the game began 50 minutes after lunch period because of persistent morning rain.
