Drug trafficker jailed, unlicensed gun, ammo defendant remanded
ACTING Chief Magistrate, Melissa Robertson-Ogle, yesterday sentenced Kevin Butts to three years imprisonment for drug trafficking.
The prisoner, 27, of Lot 3016 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to being in possession of two and a half grammes of cocaine for the purpose on May 8.
Police Corporal Sherwin Matthews, prosecuting, said cops were conducting a raid at the home of Butts when they saw him throw a plastic film container out of a window.
The Prosecutor said the discard, when retrieved and examined in the presence of the convict, contained several pieces of a hard rock-like substance and the latter admitted that he had thrown them away.
In the same Court, Robert Stanley, 43, of Mango Landing, Upper Mazaruni River, was remanded to jail after pleading not guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a gun and ammunition.
It is alleged that, on May 7, he had a 16-gauge single barrel shotgun and three matching cartridges without licences for them.
Prosecutor Matthews said a search of the defendant’s home yielded the firearm and ammunition under a mattress on a wooden bed and in a multi-coloured haversack.
Stanley will be back in Court June 16.
