Well done President Jagdeo!

As this global problem of increasing food prices escalates, the situation in Guyana has been one of great concern. It is well known that no one government is responsible for this phenomenon. Therefore, countries are implementing measures that they think are most suitable to assist citizens to deal with its impact.

I must commend President Jagdeo for the interventions that he is making to cushion the impact of rising food prices on individuals. Though there will be some who will speak out and say this is not enough to help persons deal with the problem, I still think that doing something is better than doing nothing at all.

When all is said and done, Guyana is in a far better position to handle this worldwide crisis than many other countries as is quite evident since we have adequate food supplies.

This is a result of efforts of the Government. Though it may not seem to be much, increases in public servants’ wages, subsidies and other measures being put in place by Government are adding up. If not the whole country, at least many poor families will benefit.

Yes, more can be done for citizens but, like everything else in life, it takes one step at a time. At least Government has made a start and for that society should be very grateful.
