Tractors guilty of leaving trail of mud behind on the road
I WISH to draw your attention to a problem on the West Demerara roadway. I think if the authorities do not look into it quickly, we may get some serious accidents on the very road.
For some time now, I have noticed an increased number of tractors using this road. I am not suggesting that they should not use it. But most of the tractors that use the road leave large chunks of mud along the route they travel.
This is very dangerous because with the rains coming, this could create a slippery condition for other road users, especially minibuses and get them out of control.
I was told that these tractors guilty of leaving this trail of mud behind on the road are the ones that are engaged in ploughing rice fields. Some of them have cage-wheels fitted to them and this makes matters worse.
Everybody knows that even without the mud the roads are not safe, and with the mud deposits there now, it has become very dangerous.
I think that these tractors must be properly washed after leaving the rice fields and before using the roadway. I feel the police should implement such a policy, failing which the drivers of these tractors should be fined
I hope the authorities would look into this matter and do something before we get a fatal accident or any serious crash because of the mud on the road.
