Drainage trench needs to be dug

WE, the residents of Triumph Front Lands (north of the public road) many of whom are retired public officers are now finding it very difficult to enjoy living in this area whenever it rains heavily.

The drainage trench leading from the Triumph station to the outlet koker had always been dug annually and the earth therefrom was used to raise the level of the dam. However, this trench was last dug in 2005 after the great flood.

Because of the apparent negligence of the relevant authorities to dig this trench, it has silted up resulting in the lesser flow of the rainfall water.

During the last heavy rains in February/March of this year, the drainage trench overflowed and at one point created a mini waterfall which caused the entire community to be flooded for several days. All this occurred about 600 yards east of the Government compound at Triumph where the Chairman of Region Four resides.

Several verbal reports had been made to the relevant authorities, but to date, nothing has been done to correct this unsatisfactory situation.

Through you Sir, we are now drawing this matter to the attention of the public, with the hope that the relevant authorities who currently seem indifferent to our problem would take remedial action before the impending May/June rainy season.
