Disrupted West Coast Berbice water supply restored

POTABLE water supply, from the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) pump station at Number 7, West Coast Berbice, has been restored.

The flow had been disrupted following a major mishap caused by an electrical fire on Friday but GWI Operations Director, Mr. Yuri Chandisingh said the damaged panel was replaced and the situation was returned to normalcy on Monday about 16:30 h.

He said the Friday flare-up, about 10:00 h, was, reportedly, caused by a destroyed Guyana Power & Light (GPL) utility pole at the pumping facility.

Residents said they heard a loud explosion and, subsequently, saw smoke emanating from the pole and a significant number of them were affected over the holiday weekend.

However, because GWI pleas to desist from damaging water distribution networks and pipelines were heeded, the problem was quickly rectified, Chandisingh said.
