Stop hindering the process!

I was just going through an old newspaper and was reading a letter in one of the dailies where a gentleman was describing how he and his wife were robbed by two criminals. He described how he was petrified with fear and almost saw death’s door when one of the men pulled the trigger of his gun at him twice but it did not go off. The man, after the ordeal, then came to the realisation that there are criminals out there, some of whom are often sheltered by individuals and organisations and who blatantly go about robbing and killing innocent persons. He claimed that he will no longer feel the same way as before after going through such an ordeal himself.

Mr. Editor all I have to say is that I am happy that someone ‘woke up and smelled the coffee’ because, after travelling to other countries and returning to Guyana last year, I was surprised to see (unlike in other countries where this is not so prevalent) that people come out in drones in defence of accused killers and robbers whenever they are accosted by the Police. Though this may happen in certain States, it seems that it is not as prevalent as it is in Guyana.

I really don’t know what is happening here, but it seems very strange that people would take the side of the accused killers and robbers instead of the side of the victims. In several cases here too, people always seem to put the police in the wrong and it seems that the police are always accused of holding the wrong persons (innocent ones) when they take in suspects.

I believe that the police are the people who would know of suspects since these people may have records of the suspects before and so on. I would therefore like to ask these people who continue to derail the work of the police and to make them look bad if their real purpose is to see crime continue to increase? This is the only conclusion I can come to for the behaviour of these ‘defenders’.

Let the police do their work! I cannot imagine that every time they pursue alleged criminals that these men or women are at all times innocent. Stop hindering the process! It makes the criminals more presumptuous knowing that they have support. Only the people who feel it (the victims) know it when they are affected by these persons’ murderous deeds as the writer experienced for himself.
