Minibuses should not increase fares
While I agree that the cost for gas and spare parts has escalated, I do not agree that minibuses should increase their fares.
My reason is that no minibus operator pays PAYE to the government, the money they earn is tax free, workers have to pay their fair share of taxes to take care of the infrastructure and the minibuses use the roads that our tax payers’ money pays for.
Every time there is an increase in gas, minibuses want to increase their fares as if they are the only ones who feel the pinch. Can we tell our boss that we need an increase in salary because minibuses have increased their fares?
They always complain of not making money and the number of buses increase at the park daily.
The government for too long have allowed these operators a free ride on the roads that they did not contribute to build or maintain. They never make money, every time someone talks about letting the buses pay PAYE it is always that the buses are not working, down for repairs and a numerous amount of excuses for evading taxes. They always overcrowd the buses.
If they want increase in fares then let them declare their earnings and pay PAYE like every citizen in the country.
