Culture of good practice

I apologise for taking this undesirable step, (writing in the press) to ensure that our young people are treated with respect.

I also apologise for my ignorance if I chose to ask the wrong Office to guarantee that our school children get quality services.

My outlook is that we are all in this together and must look out for each other.

I refer to a photograph showing the Cummings Lodge Secondary School’s play ground which welcomed the students at the start of this school term. Apparently, in excess of $5M was spent on getting the ground ready for the children to use.

The Chronicle reported Regional Executive Officer (REO), “Mr. Shafdar Alli as saying that the Works Committee of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) must play a vital role to ensure that projects are executed according to specification.

Mr. Alli continued that the Engineering Department will increase supervision of the contractors to make sure quality services are provided.

Mr. Alli also pointed out that residents within the region have an important part to play and emphasised that, when they observe any inferior or defected works within their respective communities, they should immediately inform the Administration”.

The communities feel totally left out of the monitoring process. Also, they are scared to talk out about poor and substandard work.

The communities must be made to believe that it is their right to keep an eye on the work. And they must be assured that they have the full support of those in charge.

The people should be given the information so that they know what to monitor. This information should be given to them directly and presented in a format that is easily understood by them.

They should also know exactly where to take their reports to get positive responses.

Let us note too, that the ways we go about our business, are the ways we show our children to behave when they grow up.

Mr. Alli’s promise (and commitment) is needed to start the culture of good practices.
