Improvements good for Guyanese athletes

GUYANA continues to make progress in its ability to host international events. There was the hosting of the cricket World Cup, the country is now preparing to host Carifesta X and, hopefully when the construction of the Olympic size swimming pool is complete we would be able to host international swimming competitions.

This will play a great role in the development of the country’s youth who have recently been excelling in different sports. There are many talented Guyanese swimmers with lots of potential. This pool will give them the opportunity to compete at the same level of other swimmers when they go overseas, having been able to train in facilities with similar standards as other athletes do.

The construction of the pool will also be a further boost for the country’s tourism industry since these events see the infiltration of many overseas visitors.
