WHILST growing up my dad would tell me about the best celebration that has ever taken place in Guyana. He made this event seemed like a dream, where everything was spectacular.

He told of how Festival City was transformed and came alive with artistes, people from all different walks of life, from various countries and amazing cultures situated in one place.

Where everyone, who was anyone in the cultural industry, flocked to Festival City to be part of the colourful activities.

I read that renovations are being done to Festival City for the celebrations, this is commendable and I hope that the area will receive fame as it once did.

The launching of Carifesta in Guyana was a happy day in our country’s history, and in August it will be even better.

This event promotes cultural unity and it could not have come at a better time for Guyana . I truly believe that Carifesta will help us to put aside our petty differences as we unite as celebrate our cultural diversity.

Carifesta holds so much hope and prospect for us, in terms of developing our country and various industries, but I think the most important thing that it will do is remind us that we are ‘one’.

My dad would have been proud to know that once again we will be hosting this amazing event.
