Murdered Enmore woman Shaneza Khan laid to rest
THE abused mother of one, whose corpse was found last Sunday, was laid to rest yesterday according to Muslim rites.
Shaneza Khan, 22, of Lot 603, Foulis Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, was discovered by a sibling on Sunday morning after she failed to return home on Saturday.
She was found in a pool of blood in the cottage she once shared with her 28-year-old reputed husband, with her throat slit and a stab wound to her stomach.
A bloody knife suspected to be the murder weapon was found next to the body.
Khan had gone to the house located a short distance away to collect her belongings when it is believed she was attacked and killed.
Meanwhile, the suspect who is said to be an alcoholic has successfully managed to elude capture up to press time.
Relatives said that Khan who moved out of the man’s home several times because of his violent behaviour had secured a job and she was expected to show up for work on Monday.
“That is why she went back there to collect her clothes, so that she can go to work but she never got the chance because she was killed in the most brutal way,” her mother, Bibi Nazmoon Hamid, 47, explained.
A week ago, he went to Khan mother’s residence where she was living with her 5-year-old daughter, for a month after she moved out of the home and threatened to end her life in the presence of relatives before he left.
Hamid added that when her daughter left to go for her clothes she told her that she would return soon but her suspicion was aroused when she failed to return home after some hours.
A search was launched for her after calls to her cellular phone went unanswered.
The cellular phone was later found in the house.
Khan was a frequent visitor to the Enmore Police Outpost where she lodged many complaints of the beatings she received whenever her husband was intoxicated.
He even beat her openly on several occasions but the police failed to apprehend him.
The suspect has also threatened to kill Khan’s daughter of a previous relationship and would show up at the child’s school and take her away.
Khan was described as a dedicated mother, a sister who loved her family and a friend who was kind to everyone.
