A very confused character

The pressure from within and out of the PNCR has begun to take effect on the leader Robert Corbin. The recently called protest by him which was to lend support to CN Sharma against the suspension of his television licence for four months was hijacked by the party to protest against VAT among things.

Corbin’s new threat now is against the hosting of Carifesta X in August. What exactly does this man want? He has shown that he is incapable of winning an election by the ballot box, so he decided to push for power sharing. This idea does not seem to be sitting well by many in the party and many Guyanese in general.

Guyana was the birthplace of Carifesta; a Regional cultural event that brings together people of different classes, races, cultures and ethnicity to showcase their differences which could lead to a better understanding of the people. Why would any political leader threaten to make any event with so much significance and benefit to Guyana unmanageable?

Could it be that Corbin’s intention is to prevent people from coming to see first hand what is happening in Guyana? Is he afraid that the more people who visit Guyana, the less he would be able to influence, with his claims of marginalisation in Guyana.

Guyana has a rich history of hosting international events. Recently we hosted some mega events that have really put Guyana on the world stage bringing focus to what we have to offer in the tourism industry, investment opportunities and human resources. This event has never been a political event so why the threats?

I am aware that Corbin and the PNCR are bankrupt for ideas to appeal to the masses having lost ground to a new party at the last election. This attempt by him will only result in him being discredited on the international scene.

No right thinking Guyanese or any person in the Caribbean would ever support a political disruption of any cultural event – Corbin has done it again, proven his irrelevance to the political process in the Region.
