HEAVY and consistent rainfall which began on Saturday in the region and continued all day last Sunday left several low areas flooded and stalled rice harvesting, especially in the north Essequibo Coast.

Reports said many fields that were drained and left for drying in preparation for harvest were flooded. Drainage and irrigation canals were also filled. Water in some canals also overflowed dams.

Reports said flooding was reported in low areas at Richmond, Henrietta, Bush Lot, Reliance, West Bury and Charity housing schemes on Sunday.

However, the water is draining off quickly when sluices are opened during low tide.

Reports also said farms in the Cozier Scheme are flooded while the heavy downpour left several areas in the Pomeroon also under water.
