Guyanese-Bermudian partners leading law firm

Janita BurkeLEADING offshore law firm, Appleby has announced the promotion of Ms Janita Burke to the position of Partner in the Bermuda office. Overall, the firm has promoted seven lawyers to partnership. Her appointment caps a year in which the firm added 46 new lawyers to strengthen its global business.

Burke is the daughter of Guyana-born Philippa Burke, Events Coordinator at the Bermuda Maritime Museum, and niece of Negla Brandis, a UK/US-trained medical specialist in Georgetown.

She has over eight years of corporate experience and is a member of the firm’s Insurance Team. Burke practises in all areas of corporate and commercial law, with an emphasis on non-contentious insurance work.

Burke has a number of Fortune 500 companies as clients, and her practice emphasis includes regulation and financing of insurance companies, formation of insurance companies, public and private offerings of debt and equity securities and segregated account structures.
