PASSENGERS will be able, for the first time, to fly directly from London, England to Guyana, starting November, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr. Manniram Prashad disclosed on Monday.

He made the disclosure at Orinduik Falls at the conclusion of the sixth annual Pakaraimas Safari expedition, which began from Georgetown last Friday.

“… this is the first time ever we will have a direct flight from London to Guyana,” Prashad stated.

He said Zoom Airlines usually flies from New York and Canada to Guyana but different persons are involved and Constellation Tours in Trinidad charters the carrier to come to this country and go to Canada, as well.

However, Prashad said another private investor will use Zoom to provide the service making the inaugural connection a reality.

He also said Delta Airlines will be arriving in Guyana from June 1, enabling more persons from North America to come here.

Prashad said he will be meeting again with representatives of American Airlines, in two weeks time, to explore the possibility of it operating here, too.

With more flights coming, the door is open for a greater number of tourists to visit, posing a brighter future for Orinduik and other areas.

“This augurs well and is very encouraging for tourism in this country,” he reiterated.
