Freddie Kissoon’s columns riddled with false conclusions

Some people have opined that the PPP lacks the intellectual capacity to respond to Freddie Kissoon’s daily attacks on the party and government. Why should the PPP be bothered about criticisms that have all the hallmarks of being invectives.

It is not necessary for any government or party personnel to respond to such outbursts that Freddie Kissoon is allowed to write in Kaieteur News, where his column is not vetted for compliance with journalistic ethics. Allowing Mr. Kissoon to not comply with the universally-accepted journalistic code of conduct, Kaieteur News does a disservice to this nation.

But in the end, the people at large will eventually find out the scope and nature of the non-evidentiary bases of Freddie Kissoon’s daily tirades. Let me offer some examples.

On February 21, 2008, Freddie Kissoon had a caption that read as “I repeat, Mr. Jagdeo should resign.” In this tirade, Mr. Kissoon said that everyone wants to leave Guyana after the Bartica Massacre. Where is his evidence to show that everyone wants to leave Guyana? To support his false conclusion, Mr. Kissoon mentions some UG personnel who in the past always indicated that he would never leave the shores of this Guyana; but after the Bartica Massacre, Mr. Kissoon said that this UG staff is now showing some inclinations to migrate.

Mr. Kissoon went on to say that if this UG personnel, a die-hard for wanting to stay in Guyana, can voice this opinion to migrate, then it is possible that every Guyanese will now want to migrate. The view that ‘every Guyanese’ now wants to migrate is not only not possible, but improbable. This is the extent of Mr. Kissoon’s evidence. His conclusions are, therefore, false.

Then he went on to say that many within the PPP are not nationalists. Again, what is the basis and evidence for this silly remark? Mr. Kissoon’s conclusions are consistently not backed up by any evidence; they are mere empty conclusions.

The editors at Kaieteur News should not allow this to continue; the editors must ensure that Mr. Kissoon complies with journalistic ethics.
