Sadistic delight
Most Guyanese keeping abreast with television on the American Channels will have seen the horrible ravages on some notable cities resulting from overtopping and breaches of river banks, whole big houses being carried to destruction and motor vehicles swept like floating match boxes. Imagine all of this happening in the mighty United States of America with all the financial resources available. It is simply a fact that no adequate plans can be put in place to anticipate the destruction that will result from the ravages of climate change.
A local print medium conveys an unfortunate, sadistic delight in publishing pictures of riverain residences which are overcome by unusual high water levels as a result of ill-fated natural occurrences; nothing to do with bursting river dams. Yet the particular print medium is purely intent on portraying incompetence on the part of the government and takes delight in using the plight of the poor riverain people in their haste to cast a dismal picture of the ruling administration.
