Lusignan massacre murder case file still with DPP
THE case of 19-year-old James Hyles, nicknamed ‘Sally’, who has been charged with the murders of the 11 Lusignan massacre victims, was postponed, once more, when he made another Court appearance yesterday, at Vigilance, also on the East Coast of Demerara.
Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs set April 11 as the date when the matter will be called again, after Police Inspector Edmond Cooper, prosecuting, said he was still not in a position to proceed.
Cooper confirmed that he would be the Prosecutor when the proceedings get underway but he applied for one more adjournment because the file is with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), awaiting further advice.
Defence Counsel Nigel Hughes remarked that the documentation was never available to the Court since it was requested shortly after the accused first appeared.
Hughes hopes that would not be the situation on the next occasion.
Hyles, a mini-bus conductor, of Lot 70 Friendship, also on East Coast Demerara, is accused of unlawfully killing Clarence Thomas, 48, Vanessa Thomas, 12, Ron Thomas, 11, Mohandai Gourdat, 32, Seegopaul Harilall, 10, Seegobind Harilall, four, Dhanrajie Ramsingh, 52, Seecharran Rooplall, 56, Raywattie Ramsingh, 11, Shazam Mohamed, 22, as well as Shalem Baksh, 52, last January 26, at Track ‘A’ Lusignan.
