TWENTY-FIVE goals have so far been scored in the 16th edition of the Annual Mayor’s Cup football tournament which kicked off on March 16 at the Tucville ground with a double-header.

In the eight preliminary round matches played, 3.1 goals have been recorded in each of the matches.

Uprising have so far secured the largest margin of victory, which was their 3-0 win against East Demerara Premier League champions BV/Triumph United.

Jerome Richardson of GDF and Edmonson Gomes of Western Tigers are the joint two leading goalscorers with two goals each to their name.

However, Gomes’ 2nd minute goal in one of his team’s matches is the fastest goal to be scored in the competition.

Pele’s 0-2 loss to Bakewell’s Buxton Stars made them the first previous tournament winners to be eliminated during the first round of matches.

Alpha United’s Philbert Moffat is the only player to date to have received a red card and that was during his team’s 2-0 win against Mahaica.

Quarter-final action in the 16-team invitational tournament gets under way tomorrow at the Tucville ground where all the matches in the competition will be played.

Over $850 000 in cash incentives and trophies are at stake.
