Ramnarine to run off-spin bowling clinic for juniors at Everest today
THE Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), in collaboration with the ‘Reds’ Perreira Sports Foundation (RPSF), will run off a Spin Bowling Clinic for junior cricketers today, at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
The clinic will be conducted by former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies leg-spin bowler Dinanath Ramnarine.
The one-day clinic is expected to attract more than 12 prospective leg-spin bowlers from around the country.
Colin Stuart, Cricket Development Officer of the Guyana Cricket Board, disclosed that the players will be selected following a development programme planned by the GCB.
Stuart and several coaches attached to the Board were expected to visit several communities to identify players for the clinic.
Ramnarine, who heads the West Indies Players Association (WIPA), played 12 Test matches four one-day internationals between 1997 and 2002 for the West Indies.
He also represented the West Indies at Youth level from 1993 to 1995.
The RPSF will also host another Nostalgia Night during the first cricket Test between West Indies and Sri Lanka later this month at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel.
Former members of the West Indies team will reminisce on their past experiences playing cricket for the West Indies and their respective countries.
Founder of the organisation, Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira, who is based in St Lucia, is in Guyana for today’s activity.
