QUALITY MUST NOT BE COMPROMISED

It is essential for all Guyanese to become intimately involved in quality so that we can expeditiously improve the standard and quality of life in our country, Guyana.

The word “quality” has an ethical tone and carries with it the feeling of what is bad or good, or poor or excellent. It connotes a value judgment since what may constitute mediocre quality to some may be excellent quality in the eyes of others.

What makes all of the differences is our commitment to quality and high ideals based on our values, goals and standards.

Quality is a personal commitment; it is not hereditary; it is acquired within a society through the values, goals and standards set by that society, and sometimes by the demands of the situation.

Patience, timeliness, efficiency and strides for excellence are components of good quality. There should be a drive towards excellence in every sphere of activity, whether it is industrial efficiency, household efficiency and personal efficiency; every conceivable task recognises the claim of quality.

The environment in which we live today is oftentimes a challenge to quality – quality of resources, quality of services and quality of life in general. However, there should be no compromise with quality – with both the delivery and acceptance of a high degree of excellence in anything achieved or achievable.

As Guyanese, we should not lower our standards or compromise quality, even when allowance has been made for differences of taste, function, behaviour and other circumstances.

Guyana’s move for a better and more stable economy is dependent on the excellence we put into our work, our products, and the controls we utilise to ensure that excellence continuously exists.

Quality, excellent quality as a prime time necessity, should be a personal commitment for each and every one of us.

To all Importers, select your suppliers carefully and import only certified goods for sale to consumers.

To all consumers countrywide – protect yourselves by demanding standards and quality – nothing less. Do not continue to accept shoddy quality goods.
