Residents, relatives of massacre victims looking to God for guidance during Thanksgiving Service

AMIDST their fears and tears, the people of Lusignan yesterday demonstrated courage and affirmed faith in God as the source who can take them through their trials and tribulations.
The occasion was a Thanksgiving service held at the home of the Thomas’ family – three of whose members were brutally slain, and two others severely wounded by gunmen during the utterly horrendous January 26 massacre.
The occasion was used to soberly reflect on the recent events, and acknowledge and give God thanks for His timely intervention into a situation that could have been worse, a family member said.

Those present at the service joined the family and other affected families in acknowledging and affirming that “God is in control”; trusting and thanking Him for who He is, as they continue to cry out for ‘healing’ and deliverance.

The service was both stirring and inspiring, and persons who attended said they were happy they did, adding that it was an appropriate way to spend the day.

The service was conducted by elders of the Lusignan Assembly of God Church, and joined by several supportive friends and relatives of various denominations and ethnicity.
Those killed from among the Thomas’ household were: Father Clarence Thomas 48; their only daughter Vanessa 12; and eleven year old son, Ron. Nineteen-year-old Howard was shot in the right shoulder and lower right arm and is still hospitalised. With him is five-year-old Roberto who was shot three places in the abdomen, and also recovering in the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Meanwhile, also recovering favourably at his home is the third survivor of the attacks – Mr. Nadir Mohamed who was shot in both legs with a high powered rifle.

Mohamed who was discharged from hospital during the first week of February, had further surgical intervention done to both legs last Friday.

That apart, he continues to have dressings done at the Lusignan Health Centre.
