Government should consider building road to Bartica

I urge President Bharrat Jagdeo and his government to make it a priority to open up lands to the people of Guyana by building roads, but a burning priority is a road to Bartica.

A road from Parika to Goshen (across the river from Bartica) is badly needed.

This could open up access to lands from Parika to Goshen. Many families could settle here.

New communities would start to live and work in this new area.

Farmers who live along the Essequibo River bank (from Parika to Bartica) instead of travelling in boats would find it easier to bring their produce to markets if there is a road. This speed boat is fast but it is also expensive.

In emergency situations for health reasons when one has to reach the hospital in Georgetown, the speedboat fare adds to accommodations costs and makes it harder to afford the trip.

A road would facilitate a faster and safer way to and from Guyana’s interior.

The economic benefits to the government could be huge through the garnering of more funds from increased farming and mining and spin-offs from other businesses that could start up – not to mention making the standard of living better for people who would acquire their own homes and lands.

This road is very much needed and should be seriously considered by the Government of Guyana. Neglecting to build this road would result in many hardships to the people.

Many Guyanese are looking for their own piece of land to own and there is so much unoccupied land. The government should build and open up this road so Guyanese can own more of their land. Don’t let it sit there and grow bush while the villages and cities become crowded.
