In all military operations, there is collateral damage

RECENTLY, the joint services launched ‘Operation restore order’ to rid areas on the lower East Coast of Demerara of criminal elements who had found safe haven in and aback Buxton.

During their searches several persons’ properties were damaged. This seems to have incurred the anger of these residents who, with the encouragement of Leader of the Opposition Robert Corbin, have been spewing hatred at the Government and the security forces.

The question that must be answered is why is it that Corbin does not want the security services to clear out any criminals in Buxton.

Why doesn’t he work with the joint services to ensure that there are no criminals hiding in Buxton and holding the villagers hostage?

Corbin seems to be capitalizing on the situation between the joint services and the residents. He knows that when Buxton is finally free of all criminals, the presence of the security services will not provoke the wrath of the villagers and thus will exemplify that there is no need for his presence.

Where are the leaders of the village? These people need guidance. They need someone with their best interest at heart to advise them at this time. This is the time for them to rid their village of all undesirables.

In all military operations, there is collateral damage and the complaints of damages done to property are being addressed; all farmers will be compensated for the loss of crops. This was stated on public television by Head of the Presidential Secretariat.

A special desk has since been established at the Police Public Relations Department for persons to lodge their claims for damages. He also said that it is not only areas aback Buxton that will be cleared, it is from Enmore to BV/Triumph.

I am advised that the army team of engineers is repairing all unavoidable damages caused when the searches were carried out.

Corbin needs to do more speaking to the security forces and less mischief within the village. His politics is leading us into confusion.
