GUYANA Power & Light now using new West Ruimveldt distribution network

GUYANA Power & Light (GPL) has announced that its technicians recently began a final sweep of the old West Ruimveldt distribution network to ensure that every customer with an active electricity account has been connected to the new system built in November 2007.

The utility said it had delayed de-energising the discarded one for more than two months to allow more time to those residents with inactive accounts and illegal connections to put themselves in order.

However, on Tuesday, GPL started removing the previously used wires, poles and transformers within the first phase section, between Cactus Street and Vlissengen Road.

The exercise will continue until all the newly built networks in West Ruimveldt have been put into service and attached customers will receive a much improved supply of current while GPL would be able to attend to line repairs more speedily, the release said.

GPL advised that those persons who have neglected to regularise their accounts will, unfortunately, be left without current.

The company continues to appeal to customers to take advantage of the flexible payment plan that was implemented for their benefit, as it provides easy solutions for those in arrears over a longer period.
