Some reporters need to be more educated before getting into Journalism

I AM of the opinion that some journalists really, really need to be more educated before they get into the journalism field. I have observed that some of these persons are not even qualified, and I have made this observation simply from the way some of them report the news and how they analyse events and issues they are reporting on.

It is quite annoying and sickening to not only hear these persons reporting using trashy language and grammar unsuitable for television, but to hear these same persons everyday. It is becoming intolerable to say the least.

One example, is the newscast aired on Channel Six on weekdays. This newscast, though the person who anchors does a fairly good job, the reporters (especially one whose name I will not mention) do a horrible job. One reporter’s tone and language is even worse than a Kindergarten tot’s. Sometimes the reporters also make wrong analyses or report their own thing.

For instance, in a recent report on the speech made by Clifford Reis of Banks DIH, the reporter was giving the public the impression that the gentleman said that his Company did not do well in 2007 as a result of VAT. This was because he said something about regretting it.

If the reporter had done some research, he will discover that no Company can do badly with VAT because VAT is business-friendly and only affects consumers. The consumers are the ones who lose with VAT, not businesses. Whenever businesses deal with this tax, they gain more because they are able to reclaim for the VAT they paid to run their business.

I think I also read in the newspapers that the Company garnered a huge amount of profit and paid in a huge sum of VAT to the Government, so how could the Company have lost?

What may have happened is that the way the tax was implemented, it may have affected business sales for a short while, but in the long run, the businesses are the ones who gained for the year. What some businesses may regret also is that now they cannot hide things that they probably hid before and that they have to pay in much revenue to the Government and show their records of sales. Another thing they may regret is that people now see the amount of tax they are paying.

This did not happen before where some businesses cheated the system due to the ignorance of consumers.
