GUYANA Defence Force (GDF) reserve soldier, Delroy Johnson, 19, of Lot 50 Stanleytown, was granted $25,000 bail on a robbery charge yesterday.

He appeared before Magistrate Chandra Sohan at New Amsterdam Court, where he pleaded not guilty to robbing Khemraj Balkarran of a $6,000 gold chain and cash making a total loss of $40,000 to the victim, on Palmyra Public Road, Corentyne, also in Berbice.

Police Inspector Fazil Karimbaksh said, after Balkarran had been robbed, other people attending the same celebrations gave chase and apprehended the suspect.

A search of his person yielded the jewel in an undergarment, the Prosecutor said.
The case will be called again on January 11.
