Miner suffering chops from cutlass attack
TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD miner, Rennox La Rose also called ‘Macko’ is now a patient at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), nursing wounds to his left shoulder, head and left leg.
The patient, formerly of Mabaruma, North West District, said he suffered the injuries last Friday while working at Enachu, Mazaruni.
He became embroiled in a quarrel with another worker who attacked him about 10:00 h with a knife.
After being slashed in the lower abdomen, he tried to be strong despite the wounding.
But as he lay in the camp bed around 17:30 h, another miner sounded an alarm and, on looking, he saw the man with whom he had the earlier misunderstanding approaching with a cutlass.
The blade missed his neck as he barred it with the left arm where a chop shattered a bone and left him bleeding profusely, La Rose recalled.
The attacker dealt him two more chops to the head and one on his left leg.
The badly injured La Rose was taken to a Brazilian pharmacy at a neighbouring location, where first aid was administered, prior to him being transferred to the city.
The victim said he made a report to the Police but is fearful that his absence from Enachu might adversely affect the investigations.
