Importing Christmas trees & decorative lighting outfits

IMPORTERS/DEALERS involved in importing Christmas trees and decorative lighting outfits are reminded of the following key requirements which must be complied with when importing such products into Guyana:General requirements
The importer must first be registered with the Guyana National Bureau of Standards to import the specific commodity and ensure that the items are fit for the intended purpose and should be safe for use.

Importers should purchase products from reputable sources which comply with quality and safety requirements and should obtain copies of the relevant standard to be used as a guideline.

The commodity imported should bear a national or international certification mark from a regulatory body in the country of origin.

An importer should inspect his consignment when received to ensure conformance to quality specifications and to detect deterioration in quality, damage during transportation or violations of labelling requirements before offering the product for sale.
Labelling requirements for Christmas-tree and decorative lighting outfits must be adhered to and the label should contain the following information:
Name/description of the item

Country of origin and manufacture

Name and address of the manufacturer, packer or distributor as applicable

Registered Trade Mark or Trade or brand Name

The use of English Language for directions and instructions

Appropriate safety warnings and precautionary instructions such as; For outdoor or indoor use only, Keep away from flammable materials

Model and serial number

Rated voltage range

Listing and frequency range

National or international certification marks
