Cuban artist Josefa Tamayo wins Castellani House art competition
WINNER of the Castellani House sponsored National Water-colour Painting Competition, Josefa Tamayo was yesterday presented with a gold medal and $75,000.
Another of Tamayo’s pieces, ‘Kissing Bridge’ and Travell Blackman’s ‘Midday at the Market’ got honourable mention from the judges.
Chairman of Castellani House Management Committee, Mrs. Janet Jagan lauded the work of the artists, pointing out that they were of high quality.
However, she suggested there be similar contests for all aspects of art.
Castellani Curator, Ms. Elfrieda Bissember said the rivalry sought to promote appreciation of the various art techniques and skills necessary to perfect water-colour painting.
She expressed gratitude to the sponsors and artists behind the scene that made the venture possible.
