Young Warriors in must-win situation against Police
YOUNG Warriors and Police will meet in the final preliminary match in the 2007 Berbice Zone of the national Neal and Massy national 40 overs first division cricket competition, today, at the Rose Hall Community Centre Ground.

Currently on nine points, behind of Bermine on 10 and West Berbice 11, Young Warriors have found themselves in a must-win situation if they are going be one of the two teams from Zone ‘A’ to advance into the Berbice Zone semis.

Despite today’s result, West Berbice are already assured of their place but should Young Warriors triumph, they will move to 13 points and become the winner of the Zone with West Berbicians settling for the runners-up slot.

However, if Police come out victorious, West Berbice will emerge as the winner with Bermine going forward as the runners-up.

Young Warriors, without the services of Gajanand Singh, due to Berbice senior inter-county commitment and former Guyana captain Damodar Daesrath, reportedly still in Canada, will include the likes of Richard Ramdeen, Paul Wintz, Kwesi Maltay, Ishwar Singh and veterans Hubern Evans and Anil Beharry.

Police, on the other hand, will rely on Michael Newland, Zaheer Moakan, Imran Moakan, Albert Sinclair and Jevaughn Stephens.

Play starts at 11:00 h with umpires Ashok Brijcoomar and Mahendra Singh.

Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar and defending champions Albion Community Centre have already qualified as the winners and runners-up respectively of Zone ‘B’.

Both teams have played unbeaten so far with three wins each but with their head-on clash  being abandoned because of rain, Rose Hall Town with a slightly better net run rate were declared as the winner of the Zone.

The Berbice Zone semi-finals are now fixed for Wednesday, October 3, and not October 10 as was previously announced.

Rose Hall Town will host the runner-up of Zone ‘B’ with Albion travelling to meet the Zone ‘A’ winner. (Vemen Walter)
